Today in the NHL: 1/24

Tuesday January 24, 2012: 13 Games

Buffalo Sabres (15th) at New Jersey Devils (7th)   7:00 pm
Last 10 Games: BUF: 2-7-1  NJD: 5-4-1
Quick Look: The Sabres are lookings to avoid a 13th loss on the road in a row as they have slipped to the Eastern Conference cellar. The Devils hope to gain ground after losing to quality opponents.
My Pick: Devils

Toronto Maple Leafs (9th) at New York Islanders (14th)   7:00 pm
Last 10 Games: TOR: 6-4-0  NYI: 5-5-0
Quick Look: In a matinee matchup, the teams travel to Long Island. The Islanders look to avenge their shutout loss in Toronto and finally beat the Maple Leafs this season.
My Pick: Islanders

Winnipeg Jets (10th) at New York Rangers (1st)   7:00 pm
Last 10 Games: WPG: 3-6-1  NYR: 7-3-0
Quick Look: The Rangers have dominated the season series so far and look to head into the All Star break atop the Eastern Conference with a win. The Jets lost last night in Carolina and look to have a quick turnaround in a tough matchup without stars Evander Kane and Dustin Byfuglien.
My Pick: Rangers

Boston Bruins (2nd) at Washington Capitals (8th)   7:00 pm
Last 10: BOS: 6-3-1  WSH: 5-4-1
Quick Look: The Capitals are without Alexander Ovechkin in this battle of the East as the teams meet for the first time this season.
My Pick: Bruins

Columbus Blue Jackets (15th) at Tampa Bay Lightning (13th)  7:30 pm
Last 10: CBJ: 3-6-1  TBL: 3-6-1
Quick Look: The Lightning won the last meeting on Dec. 17 as the Lightning look to take hold of a 5 game home stand and the Blue Jackets continue to hope for the first pick in the draft.
My Pick: Lightning

Philadelphia Flyers (4th) at Florida Panthers (3rd)   7:30 pm
Last 10: PHI: 6-3-1  FLA: 3-4-3
Quick Look: Both teams have been ravaged by injuries, but the Panthers look to beat the Flyers for the first time this season.
My Pick: Flyers

Pittsburgh Penguins (6th) at St. Louis (4th)   8:00 pm
Last 10: PIT: 6-4-0  STL: 8-1-1
Quick Look: Both teams have been on fire (the Blues suffered their first regulation loss since New Year's and the Penguins have won six in a row). These teams will battle for the second time this season after Alex Pieterangelo scored the overtime winner on Nov. 23
My Pick: Blues

Nashville Predators (6th) at Chicago Blackhawks (5th)   8:30 pm
Last 10: NSH: 8-2-0  CHI: 5-3-2
Quick Look: The Blackhawks will be without Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane and will face a tough competition in the red hot Predators as they have won three in a row.
My Pick: Predators

Anaheim Ducks (13th) at Dallas Stars (11th)   8:30 pm
Last 10: ANA: 8-1-1  DAL: 3-6-1
Quick Look: The injury ridden Stars try to knock off a hot Ducks team that has won five in a row.
My Pick: Ducks

Minnesota Wild (9th) at Colorado Avalanche (8th)   9:00 pm on NBC Sports Network
Last 10: MIN: 3-6-1  COL: 5-4-1
Quick Look: This is the third time these teams will meet as both have won one each in the series. Both teams are battling for 8th place as the Wild hope to avoid a 12th straight road loss.
My Pick: Wild

San Jose Sharks (3rd) at Calgary Flames (10th)   9:00 pm
Last 10: SJS: 5-3-2  CGY: 5-4-1
Quick Look: The Flames look to take advantage of a Sharks team that lost a key cog in Brent Burns. It took a shootout last time to decide the game in the Sharks' favor.
My Pick: Flames

Ottawa Senators (5th) at Phoenix Coyotes (12th)   9:00 pm
Last 10: OTT: 6-3-1  PHX: 2-4-4
Quick Look: This is the first meeting in almost two years between the two teams as the Senators end their west coast road trip. Kyle Turris returns to his former team. The Senators have lost two in a row.
My Pick: Coyotes

Edmonton Oilers (14th) at Vancouver Canucks (2nd)   10:00 pm
Last 10: EDM: 2-7-1  VAN: 5-3-2
Quick Look: Vancouver is winning the season series 2-1, but the Oilers and a hot Devin Dubnyk look to build momentum off their win in San Jose last night.
My Pick: Canucks

Game of the Night: Minnesota Wild at Colorado Avalanche

*Author's Note: There will be no recap of tonight's games or preview of the one game in the NHL tomorrow, Detroit at Montreal. I am taking a three day hiatus from the best blog in the world.
